The Power of Positive Management

We live in a knowledge-based economy characterized by constant change. Managers are under enormous pressure to make decisions with limited information in uncertain times. This environment places higher demands on our psychological resources than ever before. In order to thrive, managers need to bring a greater capacity for innovation, self-management, self-efficacy and a higher level of consciousness to work activities. Managers need to produce results and do more with less. So it’s more important than ever those managers know how to motivate, develop and retain the employees on their team. The latest research in psychology and neuroscience is revealing the power of how positive emotions and employees’ strengths can be unleashed to stimulate better performance, higher levels of productivity and full engagement.

Harnessing the power of positive emotion does not mean ‘just be happy’ or ‘just be positive’. Positive emotion must be authentic – and when it is – it can move people forward in a powerful way. Science has recently discovered a specific ratio of positive to negative that contributes to human flourishing and higher levels of performance. In order to create fully engaged work environments, managers need specific tools that allow them to achieve that ratio thus achieving high levels of performance. Managers must also challenge employees and change processes that block talented people from fully realizing their potential. This is what our Positive Management training program gives you – practical simple tools based in empirical research that can easily transform your work environment into one that drives performance and improves well-being.

Workshop:
Appreciative Inquiry Summits

"AI focuses on the positive aspects on our lives and leverages them to correct the negative. It is the opposite of 'problem solving'"
- T.H. White, Working in Interest Times

Appreciative Inquiry (AI) offers a way of asking questions and envisioning the future that helps organisations and individuals to collaborate and change. It is about finding strengths and building on them, rather than focusing on weaknesses and trying to ‘fix’ them.

AI is based on the idea that people move in the direction of the questions they ask. For example, when organisations study conflicts and weaknesses, they often find that the number and severity of these problems grow. When they focus on strengths and accomplishments, these positive attributes gain momentum.

For some reasons, AI is a powerful tool for us to use as we make our new strategy and brand a reality.

Does it work?

AI has helped organisations like the United Nations, McKinsey & Co., the US Navy, Walmart and Hewlett Packard move towards a more positive and collaborative future. Closer to home, at least 25 organisations are embracing the benefits of AI through funding provided by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

Some of the outcomes that have been achieved by these organizations include:

  • more engaged and productive employees
  • increased sales and enhanced business performance
  • decreased absenteeism
  • enhanced organizational reputation
  • improved capacity for dealing with sensitive/troublesome issues in the workplace
  • greater confidence among employees
  • more adaptable and flexible working environments.

All of this from collaborating towards positive change.

Accentuate Consulting can design an Appreciative Inquiry Summit for your organization. Please send an email for more details.
